Hey everyone following our wild ride!

Just a quick update—because we have some big news! James and I are borrowing a car tomorrow and heading to Sacramento to test ride what might just be our new set of wheels!

Here’s the scoop:
No updates on the house situation yet, so we’ve decided to focus on something we can move forward with—finding a bike that keeps James riding safely. After much back-and-forth (and a few reality checks), we’ve landed on a recumbent, electric tandem trike. Yep, tandem!

James was tempted by a two-wheeled recumbent, but let’s be real—between the balance issues, knee pain, and lower back pain (courtesy of LBD’s “Parkinsonian symptoms”), I had to be the voice of reason. Much as I love our cycling adventures, I do not love sprinting back home to grab the truck and rescue him after he gets stranded at the bottom of Olema Hill. Three times was enough! Pretty sure Einstein would call that insanity.

So, trike it is! And tomorrow, we finally get to test ride one—together. Who knew we’d end up on a tandem? But honestly, we’re both so excited for this next chapter.

Photos will follow… assuming I remember in all the excitement!

Thanks for cheering us on, standing by our side, and keeping us moving—literally and figuratively. We appreciate you more than words can say!

With excitement and (hopefully) steady pedaling,
James and Margit

🚴 The Great Bike Quest! 🚴

Okay, I know you’ve all been sitting on the edge of your seats, barely blinking, refreshing your screens every five minutes, anxiously awaiting this update… because, clearly, you have nothing else going on in your lives. (Hahah—just kidding!)

First, let’s get the really important part out of the way: We went to Costco in Sacramento. Yes, we made the pilgrimage. We stocked up on the essentials—chocolate, granola, dish soap, butter, and yogurt. (Because what is life without butter and chocolate?)

Now, onto the actual reason you’re here… WE GOT THE BIKE!! 🎉🎉🎉

James is officially the proud owner of a shiny, recumbent, electric trike—and I might actually be more excited than he is. But don’t worry, he’s excited too… he just has fewer words to throw at the situation.

The Quest for the Perfect Ride

As you all know, we had been fully committed to getting a recumbent, tandem e-trike. We had visions of gliding down the road together, synchronized and in perfect harmony, like a well-oiled machine.

We arrived at Laidback Cycles bright and early, and Abraham (our bike guru for the day) had a Terra Trike prepped and ready. Right color. Right setup. Looked perfect.

Then we rode it.

I took the front seat first. At first, it felt smooth… but then I tried to turn. And guess what? The turning radius was comparable to an aircraft carrier. A simple U-turn? HA! Forget it. I was basically maneuvering a freight train. I cruised around a bit, dragging James behind me, but the disappointment was real.

Then James took over. After Abraham made some adjustments and worked some magic, James took the lead—and suddenly, he was in his element. He zipped around the parking lot like an old pro, casually mumbling, "Feels like I have a Bob trailer behind me, just like in the old days when I’d ride to the store!"

I was impressed. He handled it way better than I did.

Then, as I took a bathroom break (because big decisions require hydration, and hydration requires bathroom breaks), I had a realization:

If we get a tandem, James will always need me to ride with him. But maybe, just maybe, he’d do better with a single recumbent trike… something just for him.

When I came back, James looked at me with that determined spark in his eye and said, "I think I’d like to check out a single recumbent e-trike."

And just like that, the plan changed.

Enter: The Coolest Bike in the Store

We spent three hours testing, tweaking, and overanalyzing every detail. And after a lunch break (because even epic decisions require food), James found The One.

💚 The only color in stock? Neon slime green. Iridescent. Vibrant. The kind of green that says, "You’ll never lose me in a parking lot." (or anywhere in the known universe). James shrugged and said, "It’ll grow on me."

The Specs:
🚴 Aluminum frame, foldable, 11-speed, 56.5 lbs.
🚴 Fits James like a dream.
🚴 Bright enough to be seen from space.

After a few more test rides (during which James looked like he’d been riding this thing for years), Abraham made the final adjustments, and we somehow fit it into the back of our borrowed Subaru—without even folding it up.

As we were packing up, James looked at me, a little thoughtful:

"But you didn’t get your recumbent bike."

I smiled. "I’ll be fine on my old bike… but I can’t wait to cruise around with you as soon as we get home."

We were both ready to roll! But then... it rained.

So instead of taking our triumphant first ride, we settled in for dinner, letting the excitement simmer while the weather sorted itself out. Stay tuned—because as soon as the sun peeks through, we are hitting the road! 🚴‍♂️💨
