Our First Update of the New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone! We hope your start to 2025 has been as unexpected and quirky as ours. Thank you for sticking with us on this ever-surprising journey.

To ring in the New Year, James and I became honorary Word Wizards during an epic Scrabble game. Not only did we stay awake past midnight, but we also decided to take Django, our farm-sitting partner-in-crime (a brilliant 2-year-old Belgian Shepherd), for a near-midnight walk. It was 10 minutes to midnight, the air was crisp, the streets were deserted, and we wandered under dark trees, glowing windows and faint music. Right at the stroke of midnight, firecrackers lit up the sky, and we just stood there, soaking in the moment.

So, how do we feel about this New Year? Let’s just say we’re cautiously curious and tentatively hopeful. The year started on a bright note—and that’s something to hold onto.

In CPAP news (we know you’re on the edge of your seats!), as you know, we made it through the 21-day challenge to meet insurance requirements and promptly…slacked off. Turns out, restful nights don’t maintain themselves, so back to the CPAP coach we went! Devon, our amazing coach, didn’t scold us but instead identified a faulty airflow hose (yikes) and introduced James to a new "nose pillow" system. It’s lighter, less clunky, and dare we say, life-changing. First night: 5 hours of sleep—hooray! Second night? Let’s just call it another “work in progress.” Here’s to a promising third night with our shiny new heated air hose and a fitted “nose pillow” to go with.

On the upgrades front, we’ve got big news: James is getting new shoes! His current pair might as well be relics, holding on by a thread—almost no soles left. Honestly, calling them shoes might be a stretch. They worked fine during the summer, but with all this rain and his balance issues, they’re more of a hazard than a help. Fresh kicks are on their way, and we’re counting down the days until they arrive.

Speaking of upgrades, James is also in touch with Cruzbike about testing a two-wheeled recumbent bike. I’ve been skeptical because of balance issues, but they offer a 90-day or 100-mile trial with a money-back guarantee (and they even cover return shipping). While I’m Team E-Bike, James remains undecided—or, in his words, a very noncommittal “I don’t know.” Either way, we’re excited to explore this option and find ways for him to regain some of the freedom and joy that cycling has always brought him.

Thank you again for being part of our journey. Your encouragement, kindness, and support keep us moving forward—one step and  pedal at a time. Here’s to creativity, hope, and unexpected joys in 2025!

With love and gratitude,
James and Margit
