Adventures in CPAP, Cycling Dreams, and… a Farm Full of Drama

Hello wonderful supporters!

It’s been an eventful few weeks, and we’re checking in with some updates from our wild, unpredictable, and surprisingly fluffy life.

First, we had another great visit with Dr. Rorvig in Point Reyes, who always manages to calm the chaos swirling around us. When we asked her about trying the Keto diet for James, she didn’t roll her eyes (she’s too nice for that) but gently pointed out that we’re already juggling a circus of challenges:

  1. The CPAP Machine: We nailed the insurance requirements (high five!), but restful nights? Let’s just say we’re still troubleshooting.
  2. The Great Bike Quest: Dr. Rorvig is 100% on board with getting James a bike, calling exercise the single most important thing for his well-being. She even whipped out her computer to help us explore options. Two wheels or three? Upright or recumbent? Single or tandem? The possibilities (and debates) are endless, but her enthusiasm sparked ours, and we’re ready to roll… eventually.

As for the Keto diet? Her advice: “Put a pin in it for now. You can revisit it later.” Sound wisdom, given that life is already throwing us enough curveballs.

Speaking of curveballs, Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) continues to keep us guessing. One day, it lets us think we’ve turned a corner; the next, it feels like the wheels have completely fallen off. But Dr. Rorvig keeps us grounded, reminding us that we’re navigating this unpredictable road as best we can.

Now for the fun part: we’re currently house-sitting for a friend, and it’s like starring in our own farm-life reality show. Here’s the cast:

  • Tucker, Taylor, Tulula, and Tito: Four sheep with major main-character energy.
  • 20-ish Chickens: We gave up on naming them after realizing they’re all divas.
  • Fuzzer and Smudge: Two cats who act like royalty but secretly love the chaos.

  • James and Smudge
  • Django: A 2-year-old Belgian Shepherd who’s smarter than all of us combined and knows it.

  •                                                                          Django

Managing this crew keeps us busy in the best way. Sure, it’s been raining every single day, but there’s something magical about cozying up with a farm full of animals (and occasionally bribing Django with treats).

Through all of this—rain, CPAP struggles, bike dreams, and sheep antics—your support has been our constant. Whether you’ve cheered us on, shared kind words, or donated, you’ve reminded us we’re not alone in this.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Life may be messy and unpredictable, but with your encouragement, we’re finding joy in the unexpected.

With gratitude and a sprinkle of sheep fluff,
James and Margit

Christmas Eve Update: We Did It! (Well, Sort of…) Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! We have some great news to share—we completed the CPAP 30-night challenge, meeting the 21 days of at least 4 hours per night requirement! It wasn’t without its bumps (or in this case, some late-night cursing), but we’re calling it a win! Last night was a doozy. Just one hour into the night, James woke up declaring, “I can’t breathe!” loudly enough to jolt me out of my deep sleep. I’ll admit, my first reaction was less than saintly—I pulled the pillow over my head, mentally transported to a different planet, and pretended I wasn’t there. (First time I’ve done that, promise!) But, of course, reality won, and I came to my senses. James was clearly struggling, and I remembered my not-so-official job title: CPAP cheerleader and midnight problem-solver. Patience may not be my middle name (yet!), but we managed to survive the night without too much harm. (Though we had to tackle the "I can't breathe" senario a few more times that night). And now we’re hopeful the insurance will come through—everything is documented in the MyAir app, and after all this effort, they’d better hold up their end of the bargain! James, ever the strategist, has now proposed a new plan: a 3-nights-on, 2-nights-off rhythm to keep things manageable. We’ll see how that goes, but for now, we’re celebrating this milestone! To all of you who have cheered us on, sent kind words, or supported us in any way—thank you. You’ve been the wind in our sails! Wishing you all a peaceful holiday season filled with love, laughter, and (hopefully) more sleep than we’ve been getting! With love, peace and gratitude, James and Margit
