Living the local life

…but don’t expect to be integrated.

Wednesday March 8th 2023

We are about ready to launch ourselves back into touring life here in south Italy.

I take a step back and look….

The past 6 weeks we’ve been falling in love with two Doberman

and are now basically in tears to leave this “somebody’s” home. We had established a wonderful daily schedule.

Me, the routine hater…..

Though on the road we also have a routine…helps keeping things flowing and more predictable in an unpredictable, adventurous life. Sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it?

Through the pandemic in 2020 we were less isolated in Monkey Bay, Malawi. There it felt like: What Pandemic? Locals were way to busy staying alive and not dying of hunger, drowning in the lake while fishing, malaria or any other daily exposures they’ve been dealing with all their lives….since they were born! When we passed out masks, soap and information about this deadly virus, they politely looked at us ..thanked us …but - one could see it in their eyes- “why don’t you give us something to eat…something useful”

Local lives were not interrupted by the pandemic which the locals deemed a “white people disease”. Daily routines kept going as usual.

Since we are in our little villa in Italy, taking care of dogs, house and garden, we’ve been on our own….pretty much the whole time. We are the strangers in town who keep to themselves.

We did a few little cycle loops around this area, but Lecce is a sight for sore eyes - here see for yourselves:
