When unreal became frighteningly even more dreamlike
Friday the 20th of March 2020
Monkey Bay is a vacationers dream - especially this little lodge with the same name and the guests as well as the staff one can relate to. The locals are friendly and kind and the guests are curious and fun.
I am sitting on “our” porch with view on Lake Malawi. Today is the first day we diverged from our plan...we let the ferry go without us.....
Two reasons: The state of the world and our personal state.
James seems to recover partly one day.....only to fall back into new frighting symptoms of his ill health the next.
It’s like I hold my breath, then sigh with relieve only to hold my breath again and so on.
This really can’t go on...

Update:
The entry above was written “a long time ago”!
Today the lodge has been officially closed for a week and our little community of 4 stranded individuals is slowly adapting to a sheltered life in the midst of Africa at the southern end of Lake Malawi where the monkeys roam, carefree.
We had learned of a clinic at Mclear’s (the other side of the peninsula) with 4 European doctors (of which 3 were sent back to their home countries by now due to the world crisis).
This simple, but clean and efficient health center helped James regain his health and his weight after being diagnosed with giardiasis and given the right antibiotics and an extra dose of anti-parasites.
This positive turn of events lifted my anxiety around our personal state so much, that I was able to push away any other uncomfortable reality for days ...but now...
