A little more from the southern point .......(27th of November 2019)

......but this continent is not really that pointy if you look at in on an Atlas! “The point” runs a lot of km along the coast down here were we are until it curves up to the north.
Lots of wind - as to be expected- but we had it made, staying for 4 nights/days in the sweetest little Backpacker’s you can possibly imagine. We set up our tent in the garden next to the frog pond and got the full use of the whole facility which included a pool

with fake and colorful little water lilies, a full equipped kitchen, a bar in one corner and a cafe in the other, an inside barbecue ....more like a fire place you can use for grilling.....and a bunch of resting/sitting areas all over the place inside and out that made us just want to go lounging from one couch/seat to the next with all those fun pillows.
A family run business with warm, fuzzy people working side by side to make everybody feel at home and welcome any minute of the day.
We rode north this time, a fast 109 km the next day inland to Swellendam and then the heat caught up with us. We are talking 110 degrees F. The undulating highway N2 through empty fields  (harvest here is in the spring (remember we are in the Southern Hemisphere?)- after the rainy season) and farms with 1000 acres each with no farm houses in sight and sheep as far as the eye can see. We suffered for two days in which we managed 60km one day and only 30km the next. It took us all day...... exhausted before we even got on the bikes in the morning. Rest stops were nice, but very few and without water. Traffic was crazy, also, too many trucks and the shoulder unpredictable.....disappearing suddenly with no warning...... without any room to escape from the stupid, almost-weekend-traffic. It actually has escaped our attention that we are now here in the high season part of the year. School is out for the holidays soon and everybody is heading to the coast for fun and a good summer time. After the horrible 60km that day we stopped in Heidelberg without a camping spot and too pooped to get creative, so we checked in in the super fancy Heidelberg Hotel and were pleasantly surprised to find almost royal accommodations in a freshly renovated but antique building for more than a reasonable price (about $35) Somewhere in that time frame it was Thanksgiving where some of us originally are from and we justified our splurging for dinner and breakfast ...not that we needed to, but we did anyhow.....
But then it was payback time!
The last 100km before reaching the coast in Mossel Bay, we sailed with our heavy bicycles on a 40km per hour wind right up to the campground by the oceans. Only eating lunch was just a bit of a challenge that day: Our tomatoes, little boiled potatoes, hard boiled eggs, apricots, peaches, even the chocolate and other goodies were blown across the picknick table keeping us busy while scarfing down what ever we can catch in time.
