Mayhem, Mother’s Day & a Minor Miracle: Our May Update
Hello dear friends and supporters!
We hope May is treating you as kindly as you’ve treated us. Here, it’s been a full-blown, high-speed collision with summer—and we mean that quite literally! But we’ll get to the dramatic twist in a minute…
First, let’s rewind to the sweet stuff.
Mother’s Day Magic!
Our old house came to life with laughter, love, and the world’s best crepes (courtesy of our Coby, master of brunch). It was a potluck party of good moods, great food, and even greater people—old traditions reignited with grandkids as the cherry on top. I’d spent days clearing out the cobwebs of stale energy, and lo and behold, the house bloomed with sunshine, flowers, and sparkle.
Birthday Beach Bash!
Yes, I turned 66 (who’s counting when you’re still pedaling?) and we celebrated with a sunny ride to the beach. Some had e-bikes, but I was out front most of the time—possibly due to birthday politeness, but I’ll take it as a win! A cold dip in the Bay, warm hugs at a friend’s beach house, and sparkling electrolyte water (because we party responsibly now) capped off a glorious day. We rolled home at 9:30pm, grinning ear to ear. Long live daylight savings!
And then… the plot twist!
Just yesterday, while heading to our house/dog-sitting gig in Fairfax, the wind threw a surprise party—crosswinds and head gusts galore! I managed to stay upright flying down White’s Hill at 40mph, but James, cautious not faster than 25mph on his new recumbent trike, wasn’t so lucky. At the bottom of the hill: BAM. A crash. A call. Sirens. A full Hollywood scene—ambulance, CHP, road closure, the works.
By the time I got back, the trike was upside down, the road was blocked, but—miracle alert—James was OK! Sore? Yes. Shaken? Definitely. But thanks to his helmet, some serious luck, and maybe the cycling angels, he walked away. The ER gave him the green light. The trike's a bit scuffed, but ready to ride again.
With your love and support, we’re still rolling (literally and figuratively), soaking up the sun, laughing through the chaos, and holding onto the good stuff: flowers, friendship, family, and the fierce will to keep moving forward.
Every big and little help keeps our quality of life afloat—and even lifts it higher.
From our hearts and handlebars—thank you for being in our corner.
With love,Margit & James
☀️🚴♂️💛
